The Author

Ian Ronayne is a Jersey-based author and historian whose interests include his home island’s military history and its often turbulent and traumatic relationship with Europe and its wars.

Ian's first book, Ours: The Jersey Pals in the First World War, was published in 2009 and has won considerable acclaim since. His second book, Jersey War Walks, offers readers twenty walks around Jersey with a commentary on the military history, fortifications, remains and memorial encountered. Ian's third book, which returns to the First World War, is due for publication in September 2012. A Gunner’s Great War: An Artilleryman’s Experiences from the Somme to the Subcontinent tells the story of the First World War through the words of Clarence Ahier, a Jerseymen who kept a diary from his time in the army between 1915 and 1919.

Ian, who is married with two children, teaches local military history at Jersey’s college of further education and gives regular talks on the subject. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Société Jersiaise, the prominent local academic body focused on Jersey’s heritage.
