The son of James and Annie, of Greve D'Azette, St Clement. Possibly born in Hong Kong. Prior to the war he worked as gardener and fisherman. He travelling to Ireland with the Jersey Company in March 1915 and started training. Two months later, however, he was diagnosed as suffering from illness caused by an earlier outbreak of tuberculosis and discharged from the Army as not medically fit for military service. Some reports state that a Henry Arnold, formerly of 7th Royal Irish Rifles, died in November 1918 but there is a lack of corroboration.
