The
son of John and Eliza, of 3 Byron Lane, St Helier.
Trained in Ireland and Aldershot before going to the front with the Jersey Company in December 1915. Served through 1916 until wounded during the fighting at Guillemont and Ginchy in September. Suffering from shock, he was evacuated for treatment. By early 1917 he was back at the front with the Jersey Company in Belgium. Badly wounded in May that year while taking part in a raid on the German trenches, he died the next day at the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station in Bailleul. His brother Alfred was reportedly serving nearby at the time with the Royal Artillery and may have been present at Arthur's death.
