The

the war he worked for Mr W Shaw of Bath Street, St Helier. His brother
John died in 1916 while serving with the Middlesex Regiment.
Known as 'Charlie', he was unable to leave with the main contingent in March 1915 due to illness, he didn't arrive in Ireland until April. After starting at Buttevant, in July 1915 he moved with the rest of the Jersey Company to Ballyhooley for further training. Shortly after arrival he drowned while swimming alone one evening in the River Blackwater.
