The
son of Louis and Hortense, of St Lukes, St Clement. Married and living
in Tunnel Street, St Helier, prior to the war.
While training in Ireland he attended a course on the care and preservation of water in June 1915. After completing training at Aldershot he went to the front with the Jersey Company in December 1915. Served at the front through 1916 and 1917 before transferring with most other remaining Jersey Company members to 2nd Hampshire Regiment in January 1918. Gassed during the fighting to defend Bailleul in March that year. Having recovered and returned to active service, in July he was wounded in the thigh by an exploding shell. Evacuated for treatment in a Bournemouth Hospital it is not clear whether or not he returned to active service before the war ended. Demobilised from the Army in January 1919, in the years immediately following the war he lived at Britannia Cottages, St Helier.
