Known as Bert, he was thee son of Philip and Jane of Clare Street, St Helier. Married with five children to Laura, prior to the war he lived in Dumaresq Street, St Helier, and worked as a carpenter. In April 1916 he fell ill and was evacuated to England. After treatment at Eastbourne and Hammersmith, he was discharged from the Army in September 1916 having failed to make a satisfactory recovery.
