The son of Francis and Emily Drouin of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Prior to
the war he lived at First Tower, St Helier.
In the summer of 1916 he fell ill and was treated in a hospital in France. Returned to duty in 1917, he won the military medal for bravery in the fighting at Frezenberg in August that year. In January 1918 he transferred to 2nd Hampshire Regiment with the rest of the Jersey Company, and served with them throughout that year. IN March 1918 he married. Demobilised from the Army in April 1919.
