Family
details uncertain.
In October 1915 he undertook a course on cooking. Early the following year, after going to France with the rest of the Jersey Company, he was reportedly serving as a cook. At some point in those first few months of active service he was wounded or fell ill, returning to the island on convalescent leave. In September 1916, he was wounded in the fighting at Guillemont / Ginchy. It is not clear whether he ever returned to active service.
