The son
of Thomas and Sarah, of Le Ponts, St John. Prior to the war he was married
with two children to Amelie and living in Garden Lane, St Helier. He
worked as a labourer. His son Thomas also served with the Jersey Company.
Served in a military policeman role in the Jersey Company after arriving in France. During the advance on Ginchy on 9 Septmeber1916 he fell into a trench and injured his back. Despite treatment in Rouen, Jersey and Sheffield, he remained incapacitated. Discharged from the Army on medical grounds in November 1917.
