The
son of James and Helena, of Rouge Boullion, St Helier.
Known as 'Baby', or 'Jamie', he was reportedly the youngest member of the original 230 volunteers who left Jersey on 2 March 1915. As a bugler, soon after arrival in Ireland he took part in recruiting campaign that traveled the country. After training as a bomber in March 1916, he was attached to the Headquarters of 16th (Irish) Division as a servant. In May 1916, he was gassed, although not seriously. By 1918, he was serving with the Royal Munster Fusiliers, and later (or before) also served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
