The son
of Francis and Mary, of Mary Street, St Saviour.
In October 1915, he passed a course to become a First Class Signaller, and served thereafter with the Signal Section of 7th Royal Irish Rifles. In April 1917, he was awarded a Divisional Parchment for bravery. In January 1918, he transferred to 2nd Hampshire Regiment along with the rest of the Jersey Company, serving until June that year when he left to train as an officer.
