at the Jersey Industrial School, St Martins. Prior to the war he worked
as a plumber.
Excelled in shooting and football in 1915, being a member of the team that played the Guernsey contingent in October that year. After being wounded in the chest in October 1916, he returned to service with the Jersey Company and transferred with it to 2nd Hampshire Regiment in January 1918. He transferred again before the end of the war to serve with a Trench Mortar Battery in the 33rd Infantry Division. While He won Military Medal whilst serving with this unit. Discharged from the Army in February 1919.
