Family
background uncertain. During or immediately after the war he lived at
La Rigondaine, Grouville.
Known as 'Alf', after completing training in Ireland and Aldershot he went to the front with the Jersey Company in December 1915. In March the following year he trained as a Bomber (Hand-grenades). Served through 1916 and into 1917 until March that year when captured in a German raid. Made prisoner of war, he remained in a camp in Germany until returning to the island at the end of 1918. In January 1919, he attended a function at the Town Hall for returning prisoners.
