Family
background uncertain, but mother's name believed to be Nell.
Prior to the war he lived in Springfield Road, St Helier and worked as a labourer. In August 1918, he married Beatrice while on leave in the island. Their home was at Seaton Place, St Helier. He served at the front throughout 1916 and 1917, with only one spell of illness when he was treated for Myalgia in February 1917. After transferring to 2nd Hampshires in January 1918, he was gassed in April 1918 and evacuated to hospital for treatment. Returning to duty in June, he was wounded again in October 1918. In March 1919, having recovered, he volunteered to serve with the Army of Occupation in Germany.
