The son of Theophile and Mary-Ann, of La Rocque, Grouville. Prior to the war he lived in India, serving as the State Garden Superintendent to Thkore Sahib, Prince of Gondal, Kattyawar, Bombay. Know as 'Alf', he trained in Ireland and Aldershot before going to the front with the Jersey Company in December 1915. Early in 1916 he was attached to Brigade Headquarters for a time. In January 1917, he earned a Divisional Parchment for gallant conduct and devotion to duty. Two months later, in March, he was captured during a German trench raid and made prisoner of war. Returned to the island in December 1918 or January 1919. Treated at the Edmonton Military Hospital, London, he was officially discharged from the Army due to a heart condition in March 1919, having reached the rank of Sergeant. After the war he remained in Jersey and married Alice in 1925. Died in 1971 and was buried in Grouville Parish Cemetery.
