The son of William and Mary, of Columberie, St Helier. Prior to the war he was married to Ethelind and working as for Orviss. They had one child, a daughter named Rosalie. Having completed a machine gun course at Dollymore, Dublin, in April 1915, he served with the Machine Gun Section of 7th Royal Irish Rifles. In November 1915 he earned promotion to Sergeant and then, in August 1916, to Company Sergeant Major for the Jersey Company. That same month he received a Divisional Parchment for bravery. One month later in the fighting at Guillemont during the Battle of the Somme, he was killed in action.
