he son
of Edward and Susan, of Columbus Street, St Helier. Prior to the war
he was living in Albert Street with his wife Celia and working as a
gardener.
When the Jersey Company moved to Aldershot in September 1915 to continue training, he remained behind in Ireland as a 'Home Service Man', perhaps on account of his age. As a member of 3rd Royal Irish Rifles he took part in suppressing the Easter Rising, capturing a rebel flag in the retaking of the Jacobs Biscuit Factory. By early 1917, however, he had rejoined the Jersey Company, being killed in November that year during the Battle of Cambrai.
