The son
of Lawrence and Margaret, of Aquila Road, St Helier. At the time of
joining the Army he was living in Apsley Road, St Helier, and working
as a butcher. His brother Francis also served with the Jersey Company.
As a drummer, soon after arriving in Ireland he was part of a party sent to encourage recruiting. Served at the front with the Jersey Company throughout 1916 and 1917, but as a result of ill health he transferred to the Royal Defence Corps and later the Labour Corps
