The son of James and Ester, of Sea View, Samares, St Clement. Trained in Ireland and Aldershot before going to the front with the Jersey Company in December 1915. Promoted to Sergeant, on 5th September 1916, while at Guillemont during the Battle of the Somme he was wounded behind the knee. Evacuated to the 36th Casualty Clearing Station near Heilly in the Somme valley, he succumbed to the wound on the 9th September. He was said to be of a cheerful disposition, popular with all in the Company.
