The son
of Jean and Atherlie, of Belmont Road, St Helier.
He became ill only a few weeks after arriving a Buttevant and was quickly diagnosed with Typhoid. He was moved to Kanturk, in County Cork, for treatment and appeared to be improving. However, he was unable to recover fully and succummed to the disease the day before his twenty-six birthday on the 11th of May - just over two months after arriving in Ireland.
